Promoting Neuro-affirming practice in schools:
Understanding, supporting and accepting autistic students.
Neuro-affirming practice is an approach that acknowledges the equal value of different types of brains, actively supporting autistic ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. It involves understanding and nurturing autistic children in line with their natural learning styles, creating environments that foster engagement rather than attempting to diminish their autistic traits or mould them into neurotypical behaviours. The focus is on empowering autistic individuals to learn and thrive authentically, respecting and leveraging their unique cognitive strengths and preferences.
